Rainbow Realness
Facade | Digital Fabrication | Ann Arbor, Michigan | 2022
Design, parametric 3D modeling, robotic fabrication, and assembly of a facade screen.
Using the facade for the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the intent for this “skin” was to emulate a rainbow going through the rain.
The process involved by starting the design using the parametric modeling software Grasshopper. After the design was conceived, to achieve the “rainbow” look, a dichroic film was applied on a PETG panel, which then it was incrementally form with a Kuka 3-axis robotic arm.
Designed in collaboration with Richard Hua and Michael DiBenedetto.
